TMVR - Mitral Valve Repair
TMVR is a minimally invasive procedure that may be an option for patients with degenerative mitral regurgitation who are not good candidates for traditional surgery. Unlike surgery, TMVR does not require opening the chest and temporarily stopping the heart. Instead, your heart is accessed through a vein in your leg to repair your mitral valve.
What is MitraClip?
The MitraClip device is a small clip that is attached to your mitral valve. It treats mitral regurgitation by allowing your mitral valve to close more completely, helping to restory normal blood flow through your heart.
Benefits of MitraClip
In a national study, patients who were studied 1 year after the MitraClip procedure continued to experience improvement in their quality of life and ability to perform day-to-day tasks. They also had fewer visits to the hospital for complications due to heart failure.
- The procedure is less invasive than traditional open-heart surgery.
- Procedures may vary, but patients are usually released from the hospital within 1 to 2 days.
- You should experience improvement in your symptoms of mitral regurgitation and quality of life soon after your procedure.
